Bathroom Lighting
We hold a very broad choice of bathroom lighting at good prices to help work to
your budget. We will stock all types of
bathroom lighting including bathroom wall lights, bathroom ceiling lights,
energy saving bathroom lighting and illuminated bathroom mirrors.
When considering lighting for your bathroom, it is important to look for
lighting to cover all times of the day, as you will need a refreshing light in
the mornings and a more passive light for the evening. The bathroom has
differing needs for lighting, eg bright enough to brush
your hair, but not too bright for a relaxing bath. Install a dimmer switch to
make sure you can meet the changing needs of your bathroom. Obviously, bathroom lighting needs to be special
waterproof lighting, to ensure safe usage, and it needs to be installed professionally.
Improve your experience of using the bathroom by installing the right bathroom
lighting.
As it so frequently used, it is important to get the bathroom mirror right. Or you can opt for a bathroom downlight or a
strip light above the mirror. Some of the newest bathroom mirrors have incorporated
lights within the mirror itself. This provides a good general light within the
bathroom.
Carefully chosen and fitted bathroom lighting can look eye-catching. Transform dull bathroom lighting with fittings
from our excellent range of bathroom light fittings. You will find bathroom
lighting including bathroom wall lights/fittings, bathroom spot lights and bar
lights.
The most popular bathroom lighting usually consists of either bathroom downlights
or a central bathroom ceiling fitting. You can also use bathroom spotlights installed
in the ceiling but ensure you do not point them toward the bath. Shower lighting is also available in our bathroom
lights range and bring good light into your shower cubicle.
Our extensive variety of bathroom lighting
includes ceiling bathroom lighting, bathroom lighting for the wall or for bathroom
mirrors, and lighting for your shower.
BATHROOM LIGHTING REGULATIONS
There are strict regulations in place
regarding bathroom lighting. Only lighting which is specifically designed for the bathroom should
be installed as bathroom lighting.
Always use a professional installer as
safety regulations are extensive. Bathroom
light fixtures have to be fully sealed to avoid water penetration resulting in danger
to the users. Bathroom light fittings
also need to be insulated twice with the lamp and all other metal parts completely
covered. NEVER use a non-bathroom light fitting in the bathroom. Also, bathroom lighting should be operated by
a pull switch if the switch is inside the bathroom.
The below is for guidance only and is not
meant to be a comprehensive set of instructions or a guide on installing
bathroom lighting. It is intended to give you a basic understanding of bathroom
light fittings and where they should be placed. Please consult a professional
electrician for further information.
All lighting for your b and certain outdoor lighting is classed by a certain
rating called an “IP rating”, which stands for ‘Ingress Protection’ and
following this is two numbers. The
protection levels required in different parts of the bathroom are also
different, and these two numbers show the protection needed. It is vital that you use correctly-rated bathroom
light fittings in the correct location in the bathroom.
A bathroom is divided into four zones: Zone 0, Zone 1, Zone 2 and Zone 3 as
follows:
Zone 0 is actually inside the bath/shower
area. All bathroom light fittings in this area of the bathroom should be rated
IP67 which is completely waterproof, and be low voltage, (max 12v).
Zone 1 is the space over the bathtub with a height not exceeding 2.25m off the
floor. This zone requires at least IP44 rated bathroom lighting. Some bathroom light fittings are 240v and
these will need a 30ma RCD.
Zone 2 is the space 0.6m outside the edge
of the bath and not exceeding 2.25m off the floor. This zone requires at least IP44
rated bathroom lighting.
Zone 3 is the rest of the bathroom area outside the other zones and in areas where
no flowing water is to be. There are No IP requirements in this area.
For a full and comprehensive guide please view the latest release of the relevant
wiring regulations.

LIGHTING ADVICE AND TIPS
Do you have a dull and miserable bathroom
lighting scheme? Do you want to improve
your existing bathroom lighting? You can
work with your existing wiring, which makes life much easier. If you are considering a new bathroom, make
sure to work out the bathroom lighting beforehand. Eg, you will
increase your workload if you tile over the lighting cables.
It is possible to work with your existing bathroom lighting to improve your
bathroom straight away. If you have a bright
central ceiling light, install a dimmer switch for an immediate change to the
mood of your bathroom. Frosted bulbs or
light fittings give a nice soft light, and just swapping existing bathroom
light fittings with these makes a great difference.
A number of low-voltage bathroom ceiling spotlights and downlights
give great light to walls and features. Bathroom downlighters shed light onto
surfaces and give a great effect on water and glass.
Fitting bathroom downlighters with a dimmer switch, which must be fitted just
outside the bathroom, ensures you will not be affected by harsh lighting when
you’re trying to have a relaxing bath.
Lighting for the bathroom mirror is also
available, and a good hint is to install a line of light bulbs around it. This
way you get a good, constant light from both sides, without the blinding glare.
If you don’t like that idea, fit recessed or diffused bathroom wall lights on either
side of your bathroom mirror. Steer clear of a single line of lights over your
bathroom mirror else you will have unwanted shadows. Getting the light right in
the bathroom is really important, if the light in your bathroom is particularly
soft, your skin looks good but there will not be enough light to have a shave,
for example. Bright lighting in the bathroom will give your skin a cold
paleness.
If you can, it is always good to install different switches to operate bathroom
lighting, so you can light different areas of the bathroom, and add some
candles for extra ambience.
There are also shower lights available - you could fit waterproof shower lighting
within the shower area.
Bedroom Lighting
In the bedroom you can use lots of different
light fittings and fixtures to create the desired effect. The bedroom is a place for harmony and tranquillity,
an area to unwind and rest. Lighting is the easiest way to create this
atmosphere.
However, bedrooms are often multi purpose. Apart from sleeping, we also watch TV
in bed and we use the bedroom for getting dressed and applying make up. The
multi use of the room makes it necessary to opt for a combination of ambient
lighting and task lighting.
When choosing bedroom lighting, in order to cater for times when you want to
read in bed and times when you want to relax, use dimmer switches. They change the mood of a room
immediately. Using a mixture of task
lighting and other general lighting, with the use of dimmer switches, and all
of the room’s different purposes are catered for.
Another idea is to use a combination of only bedroom wall lights and bedside table
lamps to cater for all your needs. This allows you to avoid the intense shine
of a central ceiling light while lying in bed, whilst giving control of bedside
lamps from your bed. Separate lighting
controls allow individual control. Bedside lamps or table lamps can also be
used to bring life to boring areas of the room.
To make the bed the focal point, use recessed ceiling downlights angled to the
top of the bed.
A central ceiling light fitting is usually a core feature of most bedrooms. To
make your bedroom ceiling fitting stand out, a nice lighting shade can be used
with a dimmer switch to enhance the mood and reduce the glare from a ceiling
light. For those warm nights, some beautiful light fittings are available with
a ceiling fan.
For those of us who love to read in bed, opt for a nice table lamp, or better
still, a bedside light. If using bedside lights, fit a separate control from
the rest of the bedroom lights, to give some access to your bedroom lights without
constantly getting out of bed.
In choosing bedroom lighting, don’t forget to make arrangements for wardrobe
lighting. It’s always easier to choose
something to wear from a well lit wardrobe and a popular option is track
lighting which is usually situated in such a way as to give light directly into
your wardrobes. Track lights are usually wired to their own switch.
It is also a popular choice to use wardrobe lighting which is fitted inside the
wardrobe and is illuminated when the door is opened.
We all have dull and dark areas in our house but its
easy to brighten these using kinetic lighting.
This is basically light which moves, eg
candles, lava lamps, etc. This has a
very calming influence and is useful for relaxation.
When choosing lighting for your dressing
table, the most suitable option is a light either side of the mirror. This ensures no glare or unwanted shadows
when combing our hair or applying make up.
We know how important it is to get the lighting right in your bedroom, and as
result we have a very extensive range of wall lighting, floor/table lamps, ceiling
lights, and ceiling fans with built in lights.
We also offer for sale a wide selection of light bulbs which we recommend for use
in bedroom lighting. Our range and variety of bedroom lighting including ceiling
lights and wall lights help to make that perfect bedroom lighting.
CHILDREN’S ROOMS
When lighting children’s bedrooms, be
prepared to change the lighting arrangements as the children become older.
Baby bedroom lighting is simple and needs
only consist of a single ceiling light fitting with a dimmer switch, and a
bedside lamp for night visits to your baby’s room for feeds.
As your baby becomes a toddler, the first thought when it comes to lighting
should be for safety. Lights need to be located
so that light fittings and cables are out of reach. Light fittings which are
fixed in place are appropriate as they are easy to put out of reach and cannot
be knocked down.
Older children will need more light in their bedrooms for homework. If your
child has a computer in their bedroom, this will require plenty of ambient
light without any extra glare. Desk lights produce good general light in area
and to help prevent headaches.
There are a considerable number of light fittings designed with children in
mind, with brilliant colours and silhouettes. These light fittings can help to
create a distraction for small children when it comes to bedtime, and aids
falling asleep more easily.
Ceiling Light Fittings
In the UK today, the standard lighting used in almost every room is ceiling
lighting and ceiling light fittings. Ceiling
lighting gives excellent general light, also known as ambient light. A quality ceiling light fitting is appropriate
in almost any place in the house and can enhance the look of any room.
We offer a huge range of ceiling lighting and ceiling light fittings, with each
one offering its own unique style. The
styles of ceiling lights we offer vary from traditional lighting to modern
lighting and also include energy saving light fittings designed especially to
take energy saving bulbs.
Whatever you’re looking for, be it
traditional ceiling lighting, pendant lights, spotlights or designer light
fixtures, you will find a perfect solution for your ceiling lighting in our
extensive collection.
Flush-fit ceiling fittings eg spotlights, recessed downlights, etc, surprisingly, fit
flush to the ceiling! Flush ceiling fittings are the perfect answer for discreet
or directional lighting, eg pointed at a nice feature. We hold a fantastic variety of spotlights,
ranging from cheaper spotlights to more expensive designer spotlights, and
traditional to modern. These types of
ceiling fittings are ideal in almost any room, but are most commonly found in
kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms and hallways. Spotlights also work perfectly in
rooms with low ceilings, where hanging light fittings is not possible.
For good general lighting, hanging ceiling light fittings including pendants
and chandeliers offer the best range of lighting. These hanging light fixtures are also used
for creating focused light in certain areas in the house eg
over a dinner table. There is a very diverse range of hanging light fittings
available, to suit almost any room, from traditional to modern and contemporary
to retro.
We will be offering a wonderful range of ceiling
lighting with lots of originality and some with very contemporary styling.
Our light fittings section shows several
categories of contemporary ceiling lighting. Our substantial arrangement of modern
ceiling lighting offers an assortment of colours and finishes including (but
not limited to) various brass finishes (satin brass, polishes brass and antique
brass), and various chrome finishes (satin chrome and polished chrome). The quality
of our contemporary and modern ceiling lights helps them to stand out in any
room.
If it’s traditional ceiling lighting you’re after, you’re in the right place!
Traditional ceiling lights are more understated, and do not overwhelm a room.
Traditional ceiling lights are also available in a range of brass and chrome
finishes, and come in a wide range of beautiful designs. We know about
lighting, and our large selection of ceiling lights are well categorised so you
can find whatever ceiling lighting you’re looking for quickly.
Our variety of brass and chrome ceiling lights includes many different designs
and colours, including black chrome ceiling lights and antique silver ceiling
lights. The polished chrome ceiling lights give a beautiful finish to any
ceiling in any room. The products come highly recommended and from excellent
manufacturers and suppliers with enormous experience in the field of lighting.
Our excellent selection of ceiling lights has something for everyone in need of
the perfect ceiling light fitting.
With the current penchant for energy saving options, we have many low energy ceiling
light fittings (also known as energy saving ceiling lights) and these are designed
and built to take the special low energy light bulbs which in some cases are
too big for the existing halogen fittings.
If you prefer your lighting on a more grand
scale we have a great selection of Crystal Chandeliers. We will stock a huge range of designs and
tastes in ceiling lights and we guarantee you will not be disappointed if you
choose one of our excellent ceiling lights.
The ceiling lights we prefer to sell are of outstanding quality and fit well in
any room requiring a ceiling light.
All of our other ceiling lights are stylish, elegant, and can fit the style in any
room. Choose the right ceiling light for your room, no matter how the room
looks, a ceiling light from us can help enhance a room’s feel and mood.
Ceiling Fans Incorporating Lights
Ceiling fans with lights incorporated give the
option of adding light to the room and keeping cool in the warm weather, and
saves money on electricity bills. Perhaps most surprising is the fact that
ceiling fans only use about the same power as a 100 watt lightbulb, which is
very small compared to an air conditioning unit. As ceiling fans with lights usually come with
a remote control, you have the convenience of controlling the speed of the fan
and the dimming options of the light without having to get up!
Ceiling fans with lights can be suitable in various rooms, including the lounge/dining
room, kitchen and conservatory. As there is a good variety of ceiling lights
with fans available, you can choose them to match your current décor. The most popular styles include brass, chrome
and wood finishes. Many variations are also available in the colour these
ceiling fan light fittings are available in.
Other finishes in ceiling fan lights also include the addition of
crystal to enrich the look of the ceiling fan light.
We understand that quality of your ceiling fan lights is important, and our
experience shows that the cheaper, low quality ceiling fan lights are noisier,
and tend to bend under the weight of the motor, spoiling the look of the
ceiling fan light altogether. For the best possible results, our advice is to
go with a better quality ceiling fan light which will guarantee better
efficiency and operation.
As your ceiling fan lights and other light fixtures are used to enhance the
look and feel of your home, it is advisable to buy the best fittings available.
Chandelier Lighting
In previous years, chandelier lighting was only used in very grand homes with
lavish décor as the cost involved in manufacturing chandeliers was so
high. However in recent years, due to
the cheaper manufacturing costs and ease of obtaining chandeliers, the cost and
quality have brought chandeliers into most people’s budget.
Nowadays, quality chandelier lighting is in
style for almost any room in your home. Chandeliers are now fitted in many
different styles of homes representing the best in lighting wherever they are
fitted in your home. No longer are chandeliers out of the reach of the average
home, and with the variety of different designs, colours, and styles, there is
a chandelier available to suit your home.
Chandeliers are the top level of lighting fixtures available. Chandeliers are
offered in various styles, suitable for walls or ceilings. The chandeliers we
offer are very elaborate, often consisting of over 100 bulbs and are made up of
many glass or crystal parts which illuminate your room in many elaborate designs.
Whether you’re looking for crystal chandeliers, or brass and chrome, give your
room that elegant feel you’ve always been wanting.
Although chandeliers have traditionally only been used in mansions and other
large homes, nowadays, chandeliers are more adaptable for use in different
sized and styles houses. Chandelier lighting can be used in almost any rooms to
add elegance, or to create graceful and stylish indoor lighting. Chandeliers
are also becoming more popular in bedrooms, to add to the comfort of your bedroom.
For the smaller rooms in your home, mini
chandeliers are fashionable for providing the right atmosphere and some
chandeliers are appropriate for use as wall lighting.
Although most of us have never bought a chandelier, choosing a chandelier can
be made easier by breaking down your requirements. Start by choosing a chandelier
colour and chandelier material which fits in the room you are planning for. This
should be done according to the effect you are trying to create, eg a modern looking room will need a simple chandelier with
fewer bulbs and fittings. A traditional room will be further enhanced by the
more intricate chandeliers.

Indoor Lighting
When we choose to decorate our homes, only too often,
indoor lighting is treated as a late addition to our designs. However, indoor lighting can be considered
one of the most important parts of the decor.
However you choose to decorate the interior of your home, indoor
lighting can help to create the desired affect and enhance the mood of a room.
A well thought out indoor lighting scheme can make a dull room much more stimulating.
With so many indoor light fixtures and indoor light
fittings available, it can be confusing to find the most appropriate lighting. The
different rooms in our homes require different indoor lighting, and we have the
right kind of indoor lighting for any room. Carefully chosen indoor lighting
will help your home feel welcoming and clean.
It is important to give thought to the uses of any room before
choosing lighting. Creating an adaptable indoor lighting scheme will ensure
that whatever you use the room for, you can set indoor
lighting to match your requirements. For
example, the simple use of a dimmer switch will change indoor lighting from a bright,
well lit living area to the location for a romantic dinner for two.
Always try and balance your home’s lighting correctly, for example,
try to maintain the same bright, well decorated look throughout the home, not
forgetting areas such as entrances/exits, hallways and stairways, for a look which
is well illuminated and well synchronised.
It should also not be forgotten that good quality light fittings enhance the
look and value of your home.
Lighting Ideas
Indoor lighting provides an excellent means of adding
excitement and style to your home. Indoor lighting is used to emphasise, create
and set the atmosphere in any room. Although most indoor lighting is fitted
when our homes are constructed, there are many indoor lighting ideas that can
be implemented in rooms where the decor is completed.
Indoor uplights are available as cheap, plug-in fittings and are generally used
to bathe a wall with light, or to enhance the look of plants or wall hangings.
A simple indoor uplight is usually placed on the floor and can brighten the
look of any dark areas of a room. A floor uplighter can also bathe the ceiling
in light giving a more spacious feel to the room.
Lampshades can form an important part of your indoor lighting scheme, enhancing
the appearance and efficiency of your indoor lighting. There are now a huge
number of lampshade designs with fabrics and decorations to coordinate with any
room’s decor.
Under cabinet lights are a suitable alternative to using
harsh ceiling lights in certain areas of the home. Under cabinet lights are generally used to bathe
a workspace in light and are usually found in kitchens and home offices, although
under cabinet lighting can be appropriate for anywhere that requires attention
to detail when carrying out intricate tasks.
When choosing indoor lighting for your home, it is extremely
important to choose good quality indoor light fittings and indoor light
fixtures. Good lighting can both improve your decor and increasing the value of
your home. To ensure you get the best in quality light fittings for your home,
visit our website again soon, and choose from our extensive range of lighting.
Light Fittings
The importance of good indoor lighting in your home should not be
understated. A good indoor lighting
scheme can make a massive difference to the mood of your home. A carefully selected combination of indoor ceiling
lights, indoor wall lights and indoor floor lights lets you transform the feel
of the area depending whether you are at work, rest or play. If you have a modern room with low ceilings it
is possible to purchase indoor ceiling light fittings which can be adapted to remove
hanging chains to fit your room.
LIVING ROOM
The majority of living rooms use one central indoor ceiling
light which can create shadows and glare in the room. However, choosing several
different sources of indoor lighting creates a much better indoor lighting
effect and can be changed to suit the indoor lighting needs of the room at the
time.
Table lamps are best situated around the outskirts of a
room as the light shines in toward the centre of the room. Placing table lamps on tables or shelves gives
the illusion of more space in a room.
Indoor spot lights are often used to throw light on areas of interest, for
example, pictures, ornaments, etc. The light from indoor spot lights is used to
enhance the look of features in the room.
Using dimmer switches with indoor wall lights and ceiling lights, you can change
the level of light in a room.
Wall washers are light fittings which are fitted to light the wall and ceiling,
giving an impressive effect, and can make small rooms look bigger.
Floor lamps are available in many styles and are most useful in areas where
other indoor lighting is not appropriate.
They provide excellent general lighting to areas which may otherwise be
dark or dull.
Dimmer switches give you the control you need to change the
feel of any room for any occasion. Although
dimmer switches are usually fitted on the main central lighting or wall
lighting, many new lighting products including table lamps and floor lamps now
come complete with their own dimmer switches.
DINING ROOM
As this is the main room for eating and socialising, the main lighting fixture is
likely to be above the dining table. Using a dimmer switch gives the option to
change the mood of your lighting to accommodate a romantic meal for two, or a family
meal.
Indoor lighting pendants are the most popular option in
dining rooms, with a number of styles of light fittings, from modern pendants
to traditional ascending and falling pendants.
Pendants are often large light fittings and a suitable alternative may be the
use of downlights over the dining table. These should be positioned so they
bathe light on the centre of the dining table.
Dining room pendant lighting should be used in addition to other
background lighting, such as wall lights, table lamps or floor lamps.
If at all possible, try to install your different types of indoor lighting on
separate circuits. This allows you to
control lights individually, and fitting dimmer switches also gives you control
over the mood of the room.
For the environmentally conscious, low energy light
fittings should be the choice for you. Although a low energy light fitting may
cost slightly more than other fittings the long-term benefits are substantial. Good
quality low energy lighting only requires approximately one fifth of the energy
used by a halogen bulb. There are many different varieties of modern energy
saving light fittings on the market and these are highly recommended in the age
of environmental awareness.
HALLWAYS AND STAIRS
Hallways, stairs and foyers should certainly not be forgotten when lighting
your home. The obvious lack of floor
space means that ceiling or wall lights are the best alternative in these
areas.
In order to light hallways and stairs, ceiling fittings or
recessed lights are the most popular options. It is recommended that hallways
are lit approximately every ten feet, for safety reasons. Although stairs can
be lit by hallway or foyer lighting, if you need to use further indoor lighting
for your stairs, placing a ceiling light fitting at the top of the stairs will
illuminate the whole staircase. The use of floor level lighting is common
stairs to light the way as you go up and down.
The foyer is the area where we usually welcome guests, and
general lighting is important in this area.
The area needs to be well lit, safe and welcoming. The most appropriate
light fitting for this area is therefore an attractive ceiling fixture. If
further light is needed, wall lights can provide more light as required, and spotlights
can be pointed to dim areas that ceiling pendants do not light. Spotlights in the foyer can also be pointed
at features such as a mirror or picture.
Adults' rooms
When considering lighting for an adults’ bedroom, it
is important to choose the indoor lighting carefully, because the correct
indoor lighting can help you to unwind at the end of a day. However, for those dark winter mornings, we
also need to brightly light the bedroom, so all things should be considered.
The indoor lighting choices available for an adult’s
bedroom are vast, but some basic indoor lighting requirements should be
addressed. A ceiling pendant is a
standard indoor light fitting for a bedroom, and gives effective lighting on
those dark mornings. Bedside lighting,
in the form of either wall lights, wall mounted downlighters or bedside table
lamps, is an essential light in the bedroom, ideal for reading or watching TV. If you need to switch a light on at night, it
also means that you can activate the light without getting out of bed. One wall light fitting on either side of the
bed is the standard. Wardrobe lights are
available which switch on when the door is opened. An alternative to wall lights are the indoor
wall-mounted downlighters which can be pointed in the direction you
require. A cheap table lamp placed on a
bedside unit or is a no hassle alternative to using indoor wall lights.
Where possible, we recommend fitting dimmer switches to all central indoor
lights, which allows you to change the atmosphere in a room instantly.
Children's rooms
The indoor lighting needs of a children’s room changes according to the child’s
age. However, when it comes to indoor
lighting in a child’s room, the first consideration should be safety.
When lighting a baby’s room, low level indoor lighting is essential, and night lights especially for a baby’s room are available. A suitable alternative is a bedside lamp with a lampshade.
As babies become toddlers, for safety reasons, it is important to change the indoor lighting scheme. For example, any floor lamps will need to be moved out, and may be replaced with wall-mounted indoor lights. Dimmer switches work very well in letting a child know it is time for bed.
As children become older, they often have a TV or PC in their room, and this needs some low-level lighting, for example, a table lamp or a dimmer switch on the main light.

Kitchen Lighting
We understand that kitchen lighting is a very important aspect of your kitchen and that kitchen lighting must be practical and attractive at the same time. We have chosen our range of kitchen lighting very carefully to meet these requirements.
The kitchen is quite often the place where
we eat, talk, and generally spend a lot of time when we are at home. However, we also cook in the kitchen and the
kitchen lighting scheme needs to be versatile enough for cooking, to cater for
a crowd or for a romantic meal. Good
kitchen lighting can help make the kitchen an enjoyable place to be.
The differing uses for the kitchen should be taken into account when choosing
kitchen light fittings. For example, sometimes when cooking, you need more
light than usual. There is a large variety of kitchen lighting styles, kitchen
light fittings and kitchen light fixtures, whatever your kitchen lighting
scheme.
With the current trend leaning toward energy efficiency in homes, take this
into account when planning your kitchen lighting scheme. Kitchens are usually
lit by a main fluorescent tube, which is excellent for giving good broad light
in the kitchen, and these are also energy efficient.
For areas around the sink, on worktops or
by the cooker, kitchen task lighting (task lighting is used to bathe light on
specific parts of a room) is a perfect way of lighting these spots. The main light provided by the fluorescent
tube will cast shadows on these areas and so it is sensible to install kitchen
task lighting. Appropriate kitchen task
lighting for this purpose is track lighting installed to the underside of
kitchen wall cabinets or installed above the cooker. The light from these
kitchen track lights is bright and clean.
With the current trend toward energy saving, if you can, always choose
energy saving fixtures for your kitchen lighting, and save money on your energy
bills.
Kitchen lighting is also available for glass fronted kitchen cabinets for a
nice effect. As an alternative to one central kitchen ceiling light fitting,
several kitchen downlights achieve a nice illumination. This is perfect for

GENERAL TIPS ON YOUR KITCHEN LIGHTING
SCHEME
A central kitchen ceiling pendant provides
excellent general light, but that isn’t usually enough kitchen lighting,
because you will end up working in shadows on your worktops and cooker. To
combat this problem, use kitchen task lighting to bathe your worktops, stove
and cooker in light. The colour of your
kitchen lighting should be like normal light of day so food hygiene and
cleanliness can be properly achieved.
If you happen to have a long kitchen, a central ceiling pendant may not be
wholly appropriate. In this situation
you could opt for several ceiling kitchen light fittings set apart which bathes
light throughout the whole kitchen area.
Under kitchen cabinet lighting extend good
light over work tops and cookers. A low wattage warm white coloured bulb will
give adequate light for food preparation.
Another alternative to a central ceiling pendant in the kitchen is a track
kitchen light fitting. These types of
kitchen light fittings are usually complete with directional lights which you
can point over the cooker or worktop. If you have any features to highlight, or
want to spread light over a certain part, recessed kitchen spotlights and
kitchen downlighters are the perfect choice. Wall mounted kitchen uplighters bathe
your kitchen ceiling with light for a dramatic effect.
As with most rooms, dimmer switches are also perfect for kitchen light
fittings, more in a kitchen which doubles up as a place to eat. You could raise the level of lighting for
cooking and lower it for meal time.
We have a commitment to excellence in kitchen lighting, kitchen light fittings and
kitchen light fixtures, and we are always looking to increase the products we
offer for sale. In regard to kitchen
lighting we are a leading supplier of all kitchen lighting products including kitchen
wall lighting, kitchen downlights, kitchen ceiling lighting, kitchen task
lighting, kitchen recessed lighting, kitchen uplighters and all other kitchen
light fittings.
A good lighting scheme can really make a
kitchen stand out, and when planning your kitchen lighting scheme, please opt
for energy efficient light fittings and energy efficient light bulbs.
OUTDOOR LIGHTING
Outdoor lighting on the approach to the front door of your home and at the entrance
itself is required to supply a good amount of light for your family and for
your visitors. Outdoor lighting at the
front of the house also gives a sense of security so no more rushing and
fumbling for keys at the front door.
Installing outdoor wall lights is a good way of illuminating the front door,
and motion sensors ensure that the outdoor wall light is only activated when it
is triggered.
There are a massive number of different
ways and different outdoor lighting schemes you could employ around your
home. If you have a dark drive or a
dimly lit path leading up to your home, use outdoor lighting to maker it a more
welcoming and safe place to be. You
could use simple spike lights which dig into the ground and can be solar
powered, so they do not need any leads.
As far as your garden is concerned, outdoor lighting permits you to have a
barbecue after dark, or have friends around and socialise in the garden on
those warm summer evenings.
Nowadays, there is a huge variety of outdoor lighting available, from stylish
outdoor wall lights to outdoor hanging lights and motion sensor floodlights to light
up the outside of your home when they are triggered. There are almost as many
styles, colours and materials available for outdoor lighting as there are for
indoor lighting, which means that whatever area you have outside your home
which needs lighting, we will have outdoor light fittings to suit your needs.
Solar powered lights are some of the most popular outdoor lighting products. The
advantage of solar powered lighting is that it needs no wires to work. The solar panels absorb sunlight in the
daytime and work throughout the night.
These solar lights are also cheaper compared to most other outdoor light
fittings.
When choosing outdoor lighting, be sure to choose the correct colour of bulbs. Warm
white and cold white lights look good outdoors. Multi coloured lighting could
be appropriate around the garden, but be careful with multi coloured outdoor
lighting, as it may take away from the rest of the garden’s effect.
There is an enormous range of garden lights available including spotlights, outdoor
wall light fixtures, motion sensor lighting, lamp post lighting and LED lights,
amongst others.
Outdoor light fittings and outdoor light fixtures can form an integral part of
any garden’s decor. Lamp post light
fixtures are wonderful to emphasise individual areas of the garden. Lamp post
light fixtures can look very ornamental and can shine light from above onto
your garden.
Pathways should be lit with low level outdoor lighting, eg small spike lights or bollard lighting along the edges of a pathway. However, for a more earthy look, use garden rock lights randomly spaced along the path to enable you to see where you are walking. Garden rock lights are appropriate for use near the base of favourite plants, to show the plant at its best. Garden rock lights give a shadowy outline of the plants, and can be hidden amongst undergrowth.
If your garden has any features such as a favourite plant or a water feature,
you could use outdoor spotlights to draw attention to these. Outdoor spot lights can also be used to
illuminate driveways at the front of the house, or put outdoor spot lights
around the perimeter of your garden, sunk into the ground. For this purpose,
choose recessed uplighters sunk into the ground, flush with the ground, angled
upward, but with low wattage light bulbs.
The mistake often made when choosing outdoor lighting and particularly garden
lighting, is illuminating the whole of the garden. Instead, pay attention to certain areas and
create pockets of light in different areas. This will direct attractive shadows
around your garden.
Although outdoor lighting is made to look very attractive, we should never
forget the safety reasons for having outdoor lighting. Around steps or pathways, low level lighting
is the answer. Either spike lighting or
spotlights create the perfect solution, so the pathways or stairs are lit well
enough. There is no need for any wiring
if solar powered lighting is used. This also applies to the front garden, and
any stairs or pathways need to be illuminated.
Outdoor lighting also forms part of your home’s security. Outdoor motion sensor lights are perfect to discourage burglars. The light is triggered when the movement sensor is activated, so you will never again have trouble finding your house keys.
Water features and outdoor lighting make a very good combination. Outdoor lights around the perimeter of a pond
or water feature will shine beautifully off the surface of the water. There are
also outdoor waterproof fittings which are put underwater and give a very nice
effect. Obviously, ensure that the
correct outdoor waterproof light fittings are used for these purposes. Don’t forget that cheaper waterproof solar
powered lights are available which need no wiring.
Basically, whatever outdoor lighting scheme you want to employ, we are sure we’ve got outdoor light fittings to suit you.
There are strict regulations governing
the installation of outdoor lights. You should always consult a qualified
electrician to ensure the highest safety standards are adhered to.
